I have to admit, New Years Day usually consists of curing a bit of a hangover, however this year was completely different, it was one of a kind experience! My friends boyfriend is a chef at the intercontinental park lane hotel and they were offering a winter offer of £30 for unlimited champagne and theee courses (or £44 for four courses)
Fine dining on New Years Day is such a great idea as it really tops off the celebrations into a new year and with unlimited bubbles, who can say no?
Dave, the chef welcomed us and went through the menu recommending his top picks and of course we all went for the same thing (well, we didn’t want food envy). For dessert the options were very Christmassy based and because one of the girls doesn’t particularly like cooked fruits/raisins etc, we were offered a “chocolate surprise”
We started off with seared scallops, wild mushrooms and champagne cream
The cleanse the palette for our next course we were presented with a yummy sorbet!
Moving onto the main course, we opted for the venison! I had only recently eaten an Venison steak and it was so yummy that I couldn’t afford to turn it down in this 5 star hotel. Roasted saddle of venison, fondant potato, beetroot, carrot and blueberry jus! Again this was Devine, cooked to a medium/rare standard and the blueberry jus was amazing, I never would have expected it to be so good.
This dish was so rich and I thought that I wouldn’t be able to say yes to dessert however Dave came out and joined us for a glass of bubbles (he was finished his shift by this point) which allowed us to digest the food and accommodate the sweet tooth appetite.
The staff were so friendly and very attentive and I could not fault the service for our table. We felt like VIP guests.
Afterwards we relaxed in the gin bar in the lounge and were treated to some amazing gin based cocktails
